Jay Wittmeyer

Jay Wittmeyer

Executive Director

Rev. Wittmeyer joined the LMPC staff as Executive Director on January 15, 2020.  Before assuming this role, Jay served as the Executive Director of Global Mission and Service with the Church of the Brethren, which is headquartered in Elgin, IL. His primary responsibilities there involved the supervision of staff members in Brethren Disaster Ministries and Material Resources, Brethren Volunteer Service, the Global Food Initiative, and the Office of Peacebuilding and Policy. During the 11 years that he spent at this position, Rev. Wittmeyer also traveled frequently around the globe, working with both new and established churches on several continents. Among the countries in which he has worked to promote peace and the Good News of Christ are Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Rwanda, Nigeria, Venezuela, Brazil, India, and North Korea.  From 2004-2006,  Rev. Wittmeyer served as the Assistant Director for the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center, so we are very happy to welcome him “back home”!

Richard Blackburn

Director Emeritus and Senior Consultant

Richard Blackburn recently retired as the Executive Director after 35 years of service to LMPC.  He has broad experience as a trainer, mediator, and consultant with conflicted churches and their leaders.  The congregational mediation model he developed represents a transformational approach, placed within the context of Bowen family systems theory. For several years, he attended Edwin Friedman’s Post Graduate Clergy Seminar in Family Emotional Process in Bethesda, MD.  Richard also participated in the Postgraduate Program in Bowen Family Systems Theory and Its Applications at the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family in Washington, D.C.

Devon Miller

Assistant Director

Dr. Devon Miller joined the LMPC staff in the beginning of 2021. Devon’s professional work in peace studies and cultural anthropology has focused on historical and restorative justice, especially as it relates to relationships between settler and Indigenous communities. His current research focuses on the Indian boarding schools in Canada and the United States that were operated by various Christian denominations. Devon is married to his best friend Margaret, and together they have raised seven children in Southwestern Michigan. Devon also currently pastors a small congregation dual-affiliated with the Church of the Brethren and Mennonite Church USA. In his spare time, Devon loves to work with wood, care for the family’s rural property, cook, and spend time with his family.

Sheryl Reynolds Slack has faithfully served on the LMPC staff since April, 2000. She is a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, where she serves as a Peace-with-Justice advocate. She is also an active member of Restore: Carol Stream Peacemakers, a local organization whose mission is “to address harm experienced by members of the Carol Stream community who seek a peaceful resolution through restorative circles, a collaborative and effective dialogue process facilitated by trained group members.”

Assistant for Communication

Pam Eiten joined the LMPC staff in February, 2017.  She is an experienced educator and accomplished musician.  She attends Lombard Mennonite Church along with her husband, Keith.  Pam enjoys reading, photography, traveling to exotic places, weaving, and rooting for her beloved 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs.
